L-arginine is synthesized from glutamine, glutamate, and proline in humans and is a substrate for the enzyme nitric oxide synthase. Arginine also plays a role in protein synthesis and maintaining tissue integrity. May support sexual performance in men. Involved in protein synthesis and may enhance exercise ability.
